My Spouse, my friend by Ingiete Oyama is a nonfiction book. The writer shared her knowledge on marriage, relating it to the Bible. She says marriage is ordained by God. The author explains and insists that marriage is only meant for two people and not three, hence discouraging polygamous marriage. The author also notes the roles of each person in a marriage and goes ahead to explain that the majority of the roles are to be worked on together; no one is more important than the other. Oyama also exposes various challenges that couples experience in marriage or relationships, but still gives ways to overcome them and work towards living in harmony.

This book offers a window into a successful marriage since the author talks of universal mutual support and communication. The book also offers hope and encouragement to couples facing marriage or relationship challenges. She also talks about self-happiness, where she encourages readers to focus on personal growth rather than controlling their partner every time.

I like the fact that Oyama is nonjudgmental. This creates a safe space for readers to analyze their challenges. It suits everyone and anyone who looks forward to building a happy and long-lasting relationship.

The negative side of this book is that the author keeps repeating some ideas. For instance, in chapter one, some ideas were still mentioned in other chapters, which leads to boredom.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars because of the positives mentioned above and the perfect editing it has. This is a nice and easy book to read and digest, and you can also learn more about marriage.

I strongly recommend this book to married couples and those who are still courting since it provides all the basics needed in a marriage that no one else can teach, and if there are, they are countable. For the married one, it may help in correcting some mistakes made without knowledge of them.
