The adolescent years of an individual’s life can be filled with lots of pressures and feelings of uncertainty about themselves. Scott R. Douglas wrote "Building Self-Esteem in Teens" as a guide for parents to instill good practices in their teenagers' lives that will build up their self-esteem. Setting boundaries, dealing with peer pressure, and accepting who you are comprise the themes and topics covered within this well-written read of 96 pages.

Everyone has gone through that awkward teenage phase where you're trying to figure out who you are and how to fit in. Cultivating a high sense of self-esteem is the answer. The majority of this book covers the author's Seven Steps to Self-Esteem, which is full of knowledge and information from doctors, scholars, and experts who are well-versed in every area covered in this book.

This book is more than a self-help book that’s full of tips to increase one’s esteem - it’s also interactive. At the end of each chapter, the author added a "Thinking Points" section where readers answer questions about what they read. That’s why I think this book is good for not only parents to help their kids but also for teenagers to record their thoughts and feelings.

I can say that this book extends beyond just the years of teenage. As a millennial in my mid-twenties, Step Two of the Seven Steps, "Love Yourself As You Are," was a great reminder to not be hard on myself. I have to say that chapter spoke to me and is my favorite part of the book.

If you’re a parent and feel that your teen is struggling with loving themselves, trying to fit in with the crowd, or showing signs of low self-esteem, then I recommend you get this book of knowledge. The author wrote this guide with easy-to-follow directions. I had no qualms or dislikes in my reading experience with this exceptionally well-edited book that’s free of errors. I’m more than happy to give "Building Self-Esteem in Teens" 5 out of 5 stars.
