Review of Marijuana Martinis
Marijuana Martinis by Liv Hamrick is a nonfiction book about the uses of marijuana for the benefit of the body and mind. After introducing the reader to hemp, the marijuana plant, and its history, the author discusses both ancient and modern hemp and their legal aspects in the U.S. She describes the benefits of medicinal and recreational uses of marijuana. She describes how it helps with eating disorders, dementia and other neurodegenerative disorders, stress, and sleep disorders, as well as its recreational use for getting high. She also warns against the potential risks to the heart and lungs, the risks of cancer, and the possibility of addiction. The author educates the reader about the various types of marijuana and how to take them correctly, with pros and cons, common mistakes, and overdosing.
She discusses the myths and social stigma associated with the use of marijuana and provides information on how to buy it online and offline. There is a complete chapter devoted to taking marijuana in drinks and edible forms. The author has included several detailed recipes for making alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks and edibles like cookies, gummies, and ice cream, all laced with marijuana. There is also complete information about growing one’s own marijuana at home, either indoors or outdoors.
The author started to use marijuana after her surgery to manage pain, and she provides authentic information based on her own experience, scientific research, and facts from various sources. Although the book will benefit all, it has been written specifically for women and includes discussion on the effects of weed on sex and pregnancy. What I liked most in the book was the information about the chemicals THC and CBD found in the plant. CBD is non-psychoactive, while THC is psychoactive, and it gets you high.
Although a strong proponent of marijuana, the author cautions time and again against addiction and dependency on it and emphasizes the responsible uses of weed. She warns about its use while driving, using heavy machinery, during pregnancy, and buying from illegal sources. It must not be used by children under legal age or in a state or country where it is prohibited by law. However, the author has not explained the term strain anywhere in the book, although she talks about various strains of marijuana, adjustment of doses according to strain, etc. I assume it is a unique genetic variety of cannabis, depending on its potency and how it affects the user. The book is very informative, and there is nothing to dislike about the book. I have no hesitation in rating it 5 out of 5 stars.
The book discusses feminism and the ideals of womanhood, gender, beauty, and sexuality, marijuana clubs, cannabis martinis, and brownies in a jovial manner. It will be enjoyed by both users and non-users of cannabis, men and women alike. I would recommend it for its educational value to people who need information on pain management with marijuana rather than for recreational use.
