Review of Trinities to Enneagrams, 2nd Edition
Trinities to Enneagrams by Allen David Young is a non-fiction book that explores the concept of enneagrams, which are nine-pointed geometric figures that have been used for centuries to represent different personality types. The book explores the connections between these enneagrams and Christian trinities. Muhammad Ali changed his name to represent a personality that focuses on spirituality, mysticism, big dreams and ideas. The sum of the ennegram letters in his name add up to six, with his ego-choosen personality expressing commitment, persistence, responsibility and loyal devotion to loved ones and family. First, I'd like to start with the basic plot. The book explores how the nine enneagrams, or personality types, are related to three Christian trinities: the Trinity, the Incarnation, and the Church. Each enneagram is then related to a particular trinity. The first main theme is that of the divine image. The author argues that all human beings are made in the image of God, and that this divine image is expressed through the nine enneagrams. Each enneagram represents a different aspect of the divine image, such as the need for security, the need for control, or the need for perfection. Another main theme of the book is that of transformation. The author argues that the journey of transformation begins with self-awareness, or understanding our own enneagram type. Once we understand our enneagram type, we can begin to change our patterns of behavior and move towards spiritual growth. The final main theme I'd like to discuss is that of connection. The author argues that the different enneagram types can connect with each other in order to create a more harmonious and balanced world. Each enneagram type has its own strengths and weaknesses, and when these types come together, they can complement and balance each other. The author uses a combination of personal anecdotes, biblical references, and psychological theory to support his arguments. In addition, the author provides practical exercises and suggestions for readers who want to put the ideas into practice in their own lives. Another important aspect of the book is the author's use of symbolism. The enneagram itself is a powerful symbol, and the author uses other symbols throughout the book to illustrate his points. For example, the author uses the image of a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly to represent the process of spiritual transformation. The final aspect of the book that I'd like to discuss is its style. The book has a clear and direct style, and the author's voice is friendly and accessible. The book is also well-organized, making it easy to follow the author's argument.
The book begins with an overview of the enneagram and its history. Then, the author explores each enneagram type in turn, discussing the key characteristics, motivations, and challenges of each type. The book also includes a section on spiritual practice and growth, and ends with a discussion of the role of the enneagram in relationships and the workplace. The book discuss the importance of documenting your life events in a summary autobiography, which can help you understand your life's purpose and predict your future. The life cycle is a circular, spiraling and ascending journey, and understanding your experiences in past stages can help you align yourself with their presence in the future. The book ends with a call to action, encouraging readers to use the insights gained from the enneagram to live more fulfilling and meaningful lives. The author argues that by understanding our own enneagram type, we can become more aware of our own patterns and motivations, and make positive changes in our lives.
However, the book does discuss some complex and potentially sensitive topics, such as religion, psychology, and human behavior. The author approaches these topics in a respectful and thoughtful way, but some readers may find the content to be challenging or provocative. The book draws on a variety of religious traditions, including Christianity, Buddhism, and Judaism. However, the author argues that the enneagram is not tied to any one particular religion, and can be used by people of all faiths (or no faith at all). The book is primarily focused on the spiritual implications of the enneagram, rather than on specific religious beliefs or practices. I liked the fact that the book was clear and easy to understand, and that it provided a lot of helpful information about the enneagram. I also appreciated the author's use of real-life examples to illustrate his points. One thing I didn't like about the book was that it didn't provide much guidance on how to take the next steps after reading the book. For example, it would have been helpful to have some suggestions for further reading or resources. The book is well-researched and well-written, and I didn't notice any obvious factual errors. However, it's worth noting that the enneagram is a complex and subjective system, and different experts may have different interpretations of the enneagram types. So, it's possible that readers may find some of the author's interpretations to be debatable or controversial.
I would give Trinities to Enneagrams 5 out of 5 stars. The book is well-written and well-researched, and it provides a lot of helpful information about the enneagram.
I would recommend Trinities to Enneagrams to anyone who is interested in learning more about the enneagram, and interested in understanding the different stages of life and how they can be especially helpful for individuals who are looking to reflect on their past experiences and gain insight into their future. For example, someone who is approaching their 50s or 60s and is experiencing a sense of transition or change in their life may find this book particularly useful. The book is written in a clear and straightforward way, and it doesn't require any prior knowledge of the enneagram. However, I wouldn't recommend this book to people who are looking for a quick and easy guide to the enneagram, as it's a bit more in-depth and challenging than some other enneagram books.
