“Get Over Yourself” by Jack Horton is a thought-provoking book that discusses the prevalent issues ravaging our modern-day society. The advent of smartphones and technology has caused a wave of global addiction, as most users are glued to their screens, neglecting the most important things, amongst which are building relationships and maintaining human connections.

The intrusion of technology in our society has led to a misplacement of priorities. As a result, there’s a huge decline in one’s ability to stay focused and get things done. Instead of living in the moment, we have prioritised capturing and sharing our experiences through our smartphones. Again, we tend to take note of the most exciting moments, leaving out the unfiltered moments, which are equally valuable.

In this book, there are numerous valuable life lessons to be learned. First, the author highlights the importance of taking risks. Then, there’s a conversation that stresses being optimistic and seeing a glass cup as half full instead of half empty. Again, I learned we should eliminate any form of negativity in our minds and keep smiling, regardless of the situation.

The author goes further to educate readers to create a healthy balance when it comes to social media, as it will help individuals gain control of their lives and focus on what truly matters. From the need to have peaceful co-existence to being authentic, down to the power of appreciating even the smallest things of life, the author is a testament that people can become kind and also have a moral compass to guide them, because without it, the human mind justifies anything.

I love how comprehensible the author’s conversational tone is. Again, I enjoyed reading through the ‘Food for Thought’ section at the end of each chapter, as the questions are thought-provoking. I only found a few errors, which didn’t affect my reading flow in any way.

I didn’t discover any negative aspects in this book. This is a power-packed guide that helps one easily navigate through some of the contemporary situations we face. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars, and there’s no justification to deduct any points.

This book is highly recommended to readers who wish to create change and balance in their daily lifestyle. It will also help readers think positively and have an optimistic perspective on life.

I definitely agree with this reviewer. The advent of smartphones have done more harm than good especially in that people don't want to enjoy themselves anymore but rather capture their moments. Amazing review.

This book has a serious but neglected issue to deal with. The thing is that I'm not different from the intended audience of this book. I sometimes get carried away by my smart phone. So I think this book will be a great help.

Thanks to the lessons and useful advice offered by the book's author, who aims to slow down the threat of smartphones, the present generation of smartphone users is finding it difficult to complete other crucial tasks because they are preoccupied with them.
