Roadmap to End of Days by Daniel Friedmann is a relatively quick non-fiction read about the popular and to some people frightening topic of the end of the world. The subtitle is Demystifying Biblical Eschatology to Explain the Past, the Secret to the Apocalypse and the End of the World. Whew that’s a mouthful, nevertheless it helps explain what at the book is about. End of Days is well written, well edited, and well researched. It’s also very interesting.

Reader be advised, End of Days is a strictly Jewish perspective bringing into use not only the Hebrew Bible but extra-Biblical sources including the Jewish Oral Laws, Midrash, and Noahide Laws not to mention numerous Jewish books and writings. For the reader who desires to know more about those things Friedmann’s book is an excellent avenue. The book is replete with diagrams and charts and the appendix is a treasure of definitions and explanations.

Friedmann takes the reader on a well-explained journey into his version of Jewish eschatology by starting with the beginning and finishing with the end. To understand Friedmann’s human history timeline the reader might consider reading his first book, The Genesis One Code. I did and found it another well written and interesting book. I’ve not yet read his second book, The Gift, but from my understanding all three of his books demonstrate his beliefs about how the Tanakh (Jewish canon) may be reconciled with mainstream scientific theories of the genesis of the Universe.

Being a Christian and interested in eschatology myself, I thoroughly enjoyed learning a different perspective from End of Days. That’s not saying it’s an easy read, it’s not. It is however a relatively simple read if the reader pays attention to Friedmann’s explanations, definitions, and analogies.

I also advise the reader to pay attention when Friedmann honestly states

The sources are clear: no one can know the exact form of future events, or their timing.

As the Bible famously states in the book of Deuteronomy,

The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever….

In other words there are some things that are unknowable except by God himself.

So, why did Friedmann write the book? I assume to complete his “Inspired” trilogy. When something gets inside an author he must get it out. Why read the book? That’s a question each reader must personally answer. It’s not as Friedmann states

intended to be used in planning your life.

I say to gain understanding and assistance in continuing on the road toward truth.

Therefore, I must give Roadmap to End of Days 4 out of 4 stars-not because I agree with everything in the book but because it’s excellent in every way. Kudos to Friedmann for starting with the premise,
