The Final Keystone by John Kevin Crowley is an interesting book that summarises some of western civilisation’s most exciting and significant experiences and events. Crowley’s aim is to analyse those events and investigation them in a way that guides us on the path to liberty and freedom. The author stipulates that this book is not meant to be read a a scholarly text. It is, however, written in an academic manner. The book reads like an engaging research thesis.

I loved how the book is structured. There is a clear and logical flow of analyses of significant historical events. My most favourite section of the book was the one that discussed the American revolution. It was interesting to learn about England’s methodology of colonisation and having it compared with the American revolution. Reading about Adolf Hitler in the section about WWII was equally interesting.

I had no complaints about the book. I loved the author’s manner of writing. His clarity of thought was evident throughout the book. I could tell that the author has put considerable research into writing this book. The book is rather short. More than 20 pages are dedicated to the bibliography. Yet, the book is not a quick read. This is because of its academic nature. Readers will need to navigate each section methodically to make it a learning experience.

I admire the fact that this book is professionally edited. I did not come across any grammatical errors. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

The book is more suitable for students oh history. Those studying world history or are curious about the western civilisation will enjoy this book. One must be willing to read this book as a research thesis rather than a simple story. Readers who do not like learning or reading about true historical events, will not enjoy this book.
