Deceit was an incredible book. The story was captivating but also heartbreaking. The book walks the reader through the author’s story of figuring out that his wife was cheating on him, and then goes through his journey of trying to get custody of his children. As most people are aware, it is very difficult for a father to get custody. I had a difficult time putting the book down since I wanted to know what happened next. I know that this is a true story, but I wish things like this didn’t happen. As a mother of two children, I couldn’t imagine doing what this mother did.

I liked that the author made the dialogue easy to follow. Each change in voice used a different line. That made it easy to follow what was happening and to fully understand the conversations. The story was written in a way that made the emotions feel real and intense. I also liked that the author waited until the children were adults to write the book. It was shown many times that this father truly loves his children and would do anything for them.

There wasn’t anything that I didn’t like about this book. However, there is a fair amount of profanity. Since this is a book about adultery, there are a lot of sexual parts as well. If those things bother you, then this may not be the book for you. Stories like this one remind me that I am lucky in my relationship and to not take my husband for granted.

I really enjoyed Deceit. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. While the story is heartbreaking because it is about a family that was torn apart, it was written in a captivating way. You can feel the pain, anger, sorrow, and every other emotion as you read it. I kept picking this book up throughout the day because I wanted to know what happened next.
