It is rare to find someone delighted to share his story. Read the story of a man who shares his adventures as a sailor.

When Life Doesn’t Turn Out the Way We’d Hoped It Would Volume 3 is a 363-page book by Tom Wick that recounts a part of his life adventures. The book starts by continuing with the story of his early stages as a sailor and how he graduated to a higher rank. After that, the author talks about the various places they visited as sailors and the fun activities they engaged in. At a point, the world war started, and he switched to stories about it, after which they continued their regular adventures. The author explains his adventures from Thailand to Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Japan.

One thing I love about this book is its informative parts. Firstly, the author included maps and pictures that authenticated their experiences as sailors and every ritual they did. I was able to relate to various processes of initiation. The book was well-detailed, and the author used descriptive words and pictures to create imagery. The process of graduating from a cog to a shellback was well explained. It was not dragged, and it was also not overly described. The book gives us more insight into the world of sailors, sailors’ experiences, hierarchy, mode of promotion, and adventures at sea. The book also included lessons on geography and a mathematical explanation of the world map. Also, the author went on to provide the results of research done on every city they visited as sailors. Through this book, I got an inkling of Thailand’s culture, like its rich vegetation and the sanctuary of truth. I was also fascinated to learn that Hong Kong was a former British colony.

One thing I did not like about this book is that the author did not structure it as a stand-alone. He made lots of references to the previous volumes. Another thing I’m interested in is why the title says what it does. Meanwhile, according to the book, he enjoyed all the activities he engaged in. It makes me want to read other volumes to find out. These are not enough to remove a star from this book’s rating. I rate this book five out of five stars. It was also exceptionally well edited, as I found no errors in it.

I recommend this book to lovers of adventure and adults. However, it is necessary to note that it contains lots of sexual and profane words and the use of drugs.
