Review of Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book
Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book by Kalliope Barlis is not just a golf instruction manual but a journey into the psychological transformation required to excel in golf. The book is structured to take the reader through the mental processes using NLP, with practical exercises that aim to optimize one's game and build the best golfing skills swiftly. It covers everything from pregame mental preparation to in-game focus techniques and post-game analysis. The author's conviction in the power of the mind to influence physical performance is evident throughout the book, making it a blend of psychological coaching and sports training.
What I like about this book is the emphasis on the power of visualization and its impact on physical performance. The author's recounting of her six holes-in-one within a few months of applying the book's techniques is a powerful testament to this. The detailed description of how she visualized each shot, the flight of the ball, and the subsequent success is not only motivational but also instructional for anybody interested in golfing. I recommend this book to golfers who have plateaued in their skill level and are seeking a mental edge, as well as to sports psychologists and coaches who want to incorporate NLP into their training regimens.
She described in detail how she would visualize not just the flight and destination of the ball but also the accompanying sensory experiences—the sight of the ball flying through the air, the sound of the sweet spot being hit, and the feel of the swing. This multi-sensory approach to visualization helps to engage the brain in a way that mimics actual physical execution, thereby training the mind and body to act as imagined, and after practising it, it works. I was so delighted with the result.
There is nothing to dislike about this book. It's a comprehensive guide to mastering golf, divided into three parts: Using Your Brain, Practicing Golf, and Playing Golf. In the first part, the author emphasizes the power of the mind and introduces neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) as a tool for enhancing one's game. She provides exercises like "Anchoring Good Shots" to help golfers mentally rehearse and improve. The second part focuses on effective practice strategies, with detailed instructions on handling different lies and practising at home. The third part offers tips on maintaining a routine, strategizing, and tracking progress. Altogether, I did not see anything to dislike about the book.
I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars because I see the book as a highly valuable resource for golfers, offering practical techniques for improving both the mental and physical aspects of the game. The emphasis on visualization and the author's personal success stories provide both motivation and instruction that golfers can easily apply. Additionally, the comprehensive structure of the book, divided into three parts, covers various aspects of golfing, from mindset to practice strategies to actual gameplay. Overall, the book is a well-rounded guide that could benefit golfers of all levels. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free.
