Review of Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book
What distinguishes this book, "Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book" by Kalliope Barlis, is its focus on mental preparation and skills. Kalliope uses Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) to enhance your golf game quickly. Her teaching is based on personal experience. She became a professional golfer using the techniques she describes in her book.
The author presents the book in three parts. Part 1 concentrates on using your brain and emphasizes that you can't buy your way to a better game. Part 2 is about practicing correctly, not just hitting as many balls as possible. Part 3 talks about playing the game and developing strategies. Kalliope also divided each part into chapters, which makes it easy to go back to a topic you may want to reread or study again.
Barlis calls golf the most difficult game on the planet. She also mentions that everyone possesses everything to become a great golfer; you must just tap into the resources stored in every cell. Another fascinating fact she mentions is that your brain does not distinguish between a memory of something you performed or something you observed. When a player uses NLP, it improves his thinking. NLP uses all the human senses, not just sight.
I liked the chapters on practicing the most. Kalliope provides a roadmap to improve every part of the game and guides a golfer to develop mental and physical skills that will lead to fast improvements. She advocates that practicing must simulate playing. She then covers different scenarios, e.g., different lays of the ball, holding the club, and maintaining your balance. She even talks about the hypnogogic state and how to use it to improve your game.
I also liked the examination that included all areas of your life when setting a goal, as it strengthens the belief that achieving it will be worthwhile. The author encourages positive behavior and thinking throughout the book and teaches the reader how to deal with undesired outcomes. The techniques can also be applied to other areas of your life.
There was nothing in the book that I disliked. It is written in plain language, follows a logical format, and delivers valuable information. I discovered only a few errors and deduced that the book had been professionally edited.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars for the reasons mentioned in the above paragraphs. The book is a valuable source of information for golfers just starting to play but also for seasoned players who want to improve their game.
