When Business is Love
Author: Jan Ryde.

If you are a member of management, new to the world of business, or simply need a book to help 'reset' and to 'inhale a large dose of optimism', then this is the book for you. It's a turning away from the sombre, serious and colourless image of upper management that usually comes to mind. Jan Ryde wants us to have a loving attitude in business, especially if you are in a top position. Everyone benefits from this attitude; love is infinite and not capped. If commerce is conducted in an environment of care and solicitude, then he is sure that joy, peace, and contentment will follow. Jan admits that his Hastens brand is expensive, but he explains that the beds are made specifically for the customer with due care. The upholstery contains horsehair, which adds 'spring'; the springs are designed to achieve maximum health.

Jan Ryde is an interesting character. He was born in Koping, Sweden, in 1963 and was involved in the family's business. When he found himself at the helm, he contemplated how to go forward, and love was his vision. Love means no rivals, only friends, so they are simply the best version of themselves without competition. Their 'avsikt' (meaning) is to create and be happy. For example, a delivery driver commented on a visit to Hastens: "I've never been to a company where people are so kind and where it is so fun to be!". Jan includes a cautionary tale of a company where the workers' trust was missing, causing it to fail. I enjoyed the table of
colour codes invented by the philosopher Clare Graves; that was interesting.

I found the book uplifting and optimistic (I would love to work in his factory!) and found no dislikes or grammatical errors, so I awarded it 5 out of 5 stars. If all institutions base themselves on this concept, the world might be happier.
