Marriage is a union between two people who are to become intimate and one flesh. It is meant to be a permanent union for procreation and companionship. For the success of a marriage, the couple should: exercise love, respect each other, accept each other the way they are, be selfless, be positive, exercise forgiveness, trust in God, listen and communicate effectively, be authentic, embrace change, be humble and gentle, be patient with each other, be at peace with each other, exercise transparency in marriage, and be submissive and committed to each other. These are the qualities that the author attributes to a successful marriage. Marriage should have a spiritual foundation.

I love the simple language used by the author. The book is easy to read and understand. The anectodes used by the author were quite relatable. She used real-life examples, from her own experiences and those of her clients. I was able to relate to them, and this made the book more real. She also used references from the Bible and gave Bible verses for one to refer to. This was very thoughtful of her, as it made the events more real. Reference to the Bible, as a holy book, makes a narration more genuine. There is nothing to dislike in the book. Its events are well organized into titles, which makes it easy to follow. I found only two grammar errors, which makes me say that its editing is good. The positives above make me give it a perfect rating. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

I recommend My Spouse, My Friend by Ingiete Oyama to spouses and everyone aspiring to one day get married. The book gives tips on how to have a successful marriage in the simplest way possible. It is a great read. The author gives the meaning of being submissive in marriage, and I understood that it is a two-way act. It is the responsibility of both the wife and husband to make the marriage work.
