Review of Are You Love Smart or Love Stupid
“Are You Love Smart or Love Stupid?” by Dr. Rachel Sims is a brilliant guide that helps one build knowledge in areas of love. In this book, the author debunks myths that revolve around dating, marriages, relationships, and childbirth. These are myths we have grown to believe are true through romantic books, advice from parents, friends, and so on. She also offers some insight into the reasons why some relationships fail.
The author discusses the trends on social media and how they have had a tremendous impact on relationships. Furthermore, she explains how social media, television, and movies exert influence on relationships. The media falsely leads us to believe that every part of our lives could be perfect. These presumptions create impractical and flawed expectations, especially in dating, relationships, and marriage. These conversations largely changed my perspective on these matters.
At the beginning of the book, I looked forward to a survey form or somewhere in the book that would either grade me as 'stupid’ or'smart’ when it came to love. Although the book did not contain this, it helped provide numerous answers I had concerning marriage and relationships. I also got to subconsciously erase those myths ingrained in my mind and replace them with the truths provided by the author.
The book is split into segments that discuss issues and possible disputes to encounter in each phase of love. This involves dating, new relationships, marriage, and wading through financial waters. In each chapter, the author disproves a handful of myths that determine the decisions implemented by couples. She provides both factual and fictitious examples to buttress her point. Each chapter contains some takeaways at the end, which sum up the points in a comprehensible fashion.
I found some errors while reading. This rightly leads me to state that the book was professionally edited. However, these errors didn’t reduce my enjoyment of this book, and there was no aspect I found distasteful. For this, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.
This book is recommended for readers in search of love, as it will condition them into having the right mindset. It will also teach anyone already in a marriage or relationship ways to keep the love alive. Again, with the lessons learned, this category of people will know when it’s time to move on from a toxic relationship and seek help.
