Stop Doubting Yourself: Stop Overthinking and Start Living. Finding Freedom in 7 Effortless, Uncomplicated Steps by GJ Malone is a guide that promises to liberate readers from the shackles of self-doubt and negative behaviours that often hold us back from reaching our full potential. In the earlier part of the book, Malone addresses the root causes of self-doubt, an affliction that even the most accomplished individuals have grappled with throughout history. The author’s example of Leonardo da Vinci, a genius who experienced moments of self-doubt and exhibited behaviours aligned with low self-esteem, resonated with me. This proves the universality of this challenge.
As the book progresses, Malone delves into the relationship between the brain and the mind, discussing how this connection shapes our habits and behaviours. I found the discussion about this relationship enlightening. An important lesson revealed during the discussion is that the subconscious mind handles about 90% of our daily actions, decisions, beliefs, and choices. This is a statistic that highlights the importance of understanding and harnessing the power of our minds.
One of the most valuable aspects of this book is Malone’s discussion on self-defeating behaviours. He defined what these behaviours are, their origins, and their detrimental effects. The author equips readers with the knowledge necessary to identify and address these patterns in their own lives. The author’s insights into overcoming obstacles like procrastination, a self-defeating behaviour, resonated with me. These insights also provided practical and actionable steps for positive change.
I rate this book five out of five stars because Malone’s approach not only identifies the issues surrounding self-doubt and negative behaviours but also offers concrete, actionable solutions in seven uncomplicated steps. This approach ensures that readers have a clear path forward, so they won’t feel left hanging. The chapter summaries at the end of each chapter are invaluable in reinforcing important points and allowing me to revisit the lessons learned.
I must commend the careful editing of the book, as I did not encounter any errors throughout my reading experience. I did not notice any negatives or areas in need of improvement. This is a testament to the quality of the author's work. Without hesitation, I recommend this book to anyone seeking to break free from the shackles of self-doubt and negative mindsets that inhibit personal growth and fulfilment.
