What happens when those trusted with public records, classified information, or confidential information abuse professional ethics and modes of engagement to satisfy their selfish desires? What happens when a prey seems to enjoy the game being initiated and teams up with the predator to satisfy their inordinate cravings to the detriment of every other party? What happens when someone becomes delusional and, emboldened by some institutional immunity, thinks they can get away with their misdeeds? What happens when one has to put up a fierce fight with a powerful figure and has only a limited, slim chance of outsmarting them? Can darkness ever catch up with light? You will find out about these and more in this tale of love, betrayal, disaster, and legal tussles.

Linda and her husband, Vernon Baumrind, are happily married. They have been blessed with two amazing children, a comfortable home, and a stable income. They are content with the present and hopeful for an incredibly promising future. But recently, Linda has been giving her husband a cold attitude, making him feel miserable. Mr. Baumrind couldn't just lay a finger on what the problem was all about, until one day, while playing with their children (David and Jade) in the backyard, he received a hint that changed his understanding and what he must do for himself and the children going forward.

Deceit: A True Story of Domestic Infidelity and Betrayal with Salacious Details Recorded by Wiretap is a book every adult should read. For many years, the information shared in this book has been kept away from public access due to some reasons, but Vernon Baumrind has finally been able to pour his heart out, hoping that this book gets the public properly informed about these incidents, hoping that it empowers them to take the right actions, and hoping that it deters those who might be planning to prey on unsuspecting, trusting patients and clients.

The narrative covers Linda's sexual escapades with her gynecologist, Baumrind's efforts to get his wife to discuss her problems with him, Linda's blatant refusal to engage in anything that could restore the love and trust fast fading away from her marital home, Linda's conspiracy with her gynecologist lover Dr. Ewing to mess up Baumrind's life, Baumrind's valorous efforts to secure custody of his children, and the fierce litigation following the clashes of deception and counter-deceptive measures.

This book has made immense contributions to the discussions on the issue of marital infidelity and points out the moral and institutional failures that fuel its ember. The many troubles Baumrind, David, and Jade had to deal with, as well as the sad incidents in Dr. Ewing's family, are a practical demonstration of the effects marital infidelity can have on the rest of the family members. This is a clarion call to reexamine our choices and actions and recognize the need to give some respect to the people and ideals we are answerable to.

The inclusion of the wiretapped calls, the notes on the legal proceedings and pronouncements, the highlights of the Medical Board's disciplinary actions against Dr. Ewing, and Baumrind's objective commentaries and show of empathy despite being gravely offended are some of the things that impacted me the most, and because of these and the absence of any complaints, I rate this book five out of five stars. The book was well edited and has only one grammatical error.
