According to Christian theology, marriage is considered a divine intention for humanity. Despite its significant role, numerous factors contribute to the controversy and complexity surrounding this topic. My Spouse, my friend by Ingiete Oyama delves into this interesting subject through the lens of Christian teachings and the personal experiences of both the author and other people. I believe that this book will not only benefit couples, newlyweds, or engaged lovers but also single and divorced individuals. I recommend acquiring a copy of this book to explore the intricacies of the relationships between men and women.

Ingiete's profound comprehension of the Bible enables her to draw extensively from biblical texts such as Genesis, Corinthians, and Proverbs. The book starts by revisiting the story of Adam and Eve, shedding light on what the Old and New Testaments say concerning the complex subject of divorce. Remarkably, the author references specific biblical verses that delve into marriage-related aspects like love, sensuality, compatibility, and commitment. Her meticulous examination of the book of Corinthians is noteworthy. I was impressed by how she clarified the misunderstandings that commonly emerge from different interpretations of certain verses of this book. While emphasizing women's roles to their husbands and families, the author also delves into Peter's teachings on men's roles towards their wives.

The balance between biblical and non-biblical aspects of marriage adds a lot of value to this book. Ingiete explains how factors such as finances, friendships, communication, family, and extended relatives can make or break a marriage. The author's anecdote of how a friendship nearly led to the downfall of her marriage is certain to resonate with readers. Despite the interconnectedness and importance of all these topics, communication emerges as noteworthy for its overall influence over the others. While most of us have preconceived notions about marriage, this book will take you through the challenges and the joys of marital realities. Ingiete says that the inevitability of change in marriage cannot be overlooked. I invite you to prepare for this phase under her skillful guidance.

This book has several positive aspects. First, I must commend the author for her ability to quote and explain biblical verses without altering their original meanings and messages. Second, her courage in addressing sensitive topics such as marital abuse, sexual immorality, and gender bias is truly admirable. Lastly, the inclusion of diverse personal experiences from other people enriches the book's content.

The editing team did a good job; I encountered zero errors while reading. There is nothing I dislike about this book; therefore, it deserves a perfect rating. I hereby rate this book five out of five stars because of the positives I have mentioned above. I recommend this book to anyone who already is or looking forward to getting married!
