“When a person fasts, the body, in its natural wisdom, alters its metabolic rate and focuses on detoxification, rejuvenation and healing.”

Marjan’s Fasting Firepower compiles historical and religious examples from around the world. The author combines this documentation with current statistics to support the practice of fasting for both health and spiritual benefits.

Marjan’s book is divided into three sections. Part I begins with historical references to fasting that go back thousands of years. The author quotes several secular and religious leaders whose writings promote fasting for a variety of reasons. Marjan also offers advice about why, how, and when to fast. You will certainly want a copy of this book if you have ever wanted to ask any of the following questions. Who can fast safely? Which systems of the body do distinct types of fasting affect? Why should you fast?

Part II of the book deals with spiritual benefits of fasting. This unit delves deeper into scriptural reasons, such as miracles and healing. The author discusses faith and how it is related to fasting. In Part III, Marjan talks about his personal schedule. Did you know that some people fast up to 40 days (about 1 and a half months) or longer?

I like the consistency in Marjan’s writing. He quotes many Bible verses and other sources throughout his book. He uses copious footnotes, which are carefully cited at the end of the book. I like having the endnotes available to easily look up additional information. I like this author’s narrative style because it is very straightforward and easy to read. Marjan writes as though he is speaking to a friend. I also like the arrangement of the book.

I did not find anything to dislike about this book. It is exceptionally well-edited, and I found no errors to report. This is a wholesome, well-written book. For these reasons, I rate Fasting Firepower 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book for anyone who endeavors to learn about fasting for either physical health or spiritual enlightenment. It is well-suited for readers who welcome guidance from the Bible.
