Do you postpone pursuing your dreams because you lack self-confidence? Are you constantly worried about how other people think of you? Are you unhappy because of negative thoughts and self-hate? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should read
Self Love: Journal Your Journey by Natalie Bears.
I believe that most individuals tend to have more negative thoughts about themselves than positive ones. For many, it's a struggle to balance negative thoughts with feel-good moments and small victories. Why can’t people feel happy most of the time? The author addresses this problem by posing thought-provoking questions, using positive language, and coaching the reader to change their negative mindset to a positive one.
I found Bears’ writing style uplifting, supportive, and humorous. The author wrote a comment that resonated with me and made me chuckle. It was: “What other people think of you is none of your business now or ever.” As I continued reading, I thought, "This is positive guidance many people need."
Bears started the book’s chapters with quotes from famous people about self-love and making a difference in the world. These famous people included Mother Teresa, Charlie Chaplin, Oscar Wilde, Buddha, Steve Maraboli, Audrey Hepburn, Anne Frank, Laverne Cox, Sally Field, and Mahatma Gandhi. These quotes added credibility to the guidance offered by Bears. At the end of each chapter, Bears posed a thought-provoking question and encouraged the reader to keep a journal of their thoughts, intentions, and things that made them happy. The journal was intended to bolster the reader’s commitment to positive change.
I liked that the book was relatively short in length. I read it in two hours. The repetition of ideas throughout the book was necessary to drive home the salient points. It was a form of cheerleading and did not bore me. However, there were a couple of downsides. The author used some run-on sentences that were difficult to understand, and I noticed some hard-to-ignore grammar mistakes.
Overall the book was inspiring, eye-opening, supportive, and convincing. Anyone who reads this book will learn to love themselves and stop worrying about what other people think of them.
I gave this book
4 out of 5 stars. I deducted one star because of the mentioned downsides. Professional editing will help to remedy these problems.

Many people procrastinate, and don't love them selvescas much as they are supposed to. You should always come first in your life and make mental health a priority. The author has written about a common problem experienced by people with low self worth and I admire him for that

Self-love and motivation are always great. But I don't feel the need to buy a book to accomplish those. You can go on self-improvement/wellness blogs and they'll achieve the same effect.

It sounds like a quick and inspirational read that might be valuable to some readers. Books from the self-help genre tend to be repetitive. Your review is great, Gerry. Shame about the editing issue. All the best!

I always try to have positive thoughts about myself. It's a process that requires some training, especially if you live in an environment that tends to be negative, so a book that can help to improve on that is certainly useful. Thank you for your great review!

I feel like this book has a very important lesson that I would benefit from. However, I do agree that professional editing would help to make the reading experience more enjoyable as grammar mistakes due to tend to distract the reader. Considering the book does seem really useful, I would be willing to overlook the mistakes and read it anyways. Thank you so much for the honest review!
