Jan Ryde's "When Business Is Love: The Spirit of Hästens" is a refreshing and inspiring exploration of how love can transform both business and personal life. It's a book that challenges conventional notions of success by arguing that a compassionate and love-driven approach can lead to both personal and professional fulfillment. Ryde, the fifth-generation CEO of the renowned Swedish bed manufacturer Hästens, doesn't shy away from sharing his personal journey. He weaves together his experiences, from his time as a business school professor to leading a family legacy, with insights on how he infused love into his company's culture and operations.

What makes this book so compelling is its authenticity. Ryde doesn't present a utopian vision of business. He acknowledges the challenges and complexities that come with implementing a love-based approach, including the inevitable questions, debates, and even turnover that might arise. He offers practical advice and a thoughtful discussion of these hurdles, making the message relatable and realistic.

The book's key takeaway is that true success lies in finding meaning and purpose beyond just profit. Ryde's belief that "when people don’t have meaning in their lives, then they look for pleasure, which is completely different and an inadequate substitute for meaning," resonates deeply. He challenges readers to consider how love, compassion, and genuine care for employees and customers can create a truly fulfilling and impactful business.

"When Business Is Love" is a powerful reminder that the world needs more leaders who prioritize love and meaning over profit. It's a book that will inspire you to re-evaluate your own approach to business and life and consider the profound impact that a love-driven mindset can have.

Overall, the book is authentic, insightful, practical, and inspirational. Some might find the message idealistic, but Ryde addresses this by presenting the challenges openly. It will be enjoyed by business leaders, entrepreneurs, and anyone seeking a more fulfilling approach to work and life.

This book deserves a 5 out of 5 rating. I like this book very much, and I found no reason to dislike it. I found no editing errors throughout the book, which shows the excellence of the author. The author did a fantastic job of explaining the valuable assets in business.
