("The Glorious Beast!" by Scott L. Chally.)

Two boys, Ricky and Jimmy, became close friends in Monticello, Iowa. Both attended Monticello Middle School, with Ricky in seventh grade. Ricky, an active B student, and Jimmy, who lived nearby. One day, Ricky received a note from Molly Brenneman, a popular and attractive girl, asking him to dance. Thrilled, Ricky agreed. However, Wayne Johnson, an eighth grader and football team captain, confronted Ricky in the bathroom, mocking and challenging him to a fight over Molly. Despite Wayne’s insults and threats, Ricky decided to stand up for himself. Jimmy quickly jumped in to support Ricky, preventing Wayne from swinging at him. Ricky called Laverta to check on her date with Jermaine. Laverta excitedly shared that they had a great time, hit it off well, and ended up spending a lot of time together. Ricky then asked Laverta for a favor involving obtaining DOT ticket books and officer details from several states. Laverta agreed to help despite knowing it was risky.

Jimmy received a request from a city administrator, Don Johnson, to move a large boulder to Marion. They faced challenges moving the boulder, including underestimating its weight, resulting in road damage. A DOT officer stopped them, and the officer then escorted them to their destination. They successfully placed the boulder and completed the task, making a profit despite the obstacles. Jimmy and his team also secured new delivery contracts for their trucks, planning to expand their business. Sondra helped with administrative tasks and hiring. At the end of the book, this includes automating and streamlining medical services and payments, while also ensuring that all necessary medical tests, procedures, and supplies are seamlessly tracked and funded by the government.

I particularly liked the way it starts with the relatable experiences of Ricky and Jimmy as they navigate school life, complete with the excitement and anxiety of young friendships and first crushes. The transition from their childhood to adulthood felt seamless, portraying their growth and the challenges they face in a realistic manner. The complexity of the book kept me engaged throughout. I found the subplot involving the mob cartel and the subsequent rise of their delivery business especially intriguing. It added a thrilling edge to the story, showing how ordinary lives can take unexpected turns. Another standout aspect was the portrayal of Jimmy's father and his struggles. This added a layer of emotional depth and authenticity, making the story more than just a series of adventurous events. The father's belief in his destiny and the eventual twist of his being elected president were both surprising and thought-provoking. The book's ability to intertwine heartfelt moments made it an enjoyable and memorable read. That's why I give this book 5 out of 5 stars, and I haven't found any dislikes about the book. The book's editing is faultless, and "The Glorious Beast!" by Scott L. Chally is suitable for mature audiences who enjoy a blend of comedy, suspense, thriller, action, drama, romance, and politics.
