[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "She Was Born for a Purpose" by Janet Lohmann.]
Elizabeth's life has been marked by abandonment issues, racial prejudice, and religious questions. She was abandoned as a child, faced a troubled marriage, and later reunited with her biological mother. Despite her successes as a sales director, her personal life was tumultuous, with a husband struggling with alcoholism and possibly infidelity. After a chance encounter with a Christian man, will Elizabeth rediscover her faith and find solace in her relationship with her husband and her community? She Was Born for a Purpose by Janet Lohmann is a book that tells a heartfelt, raw, and honest account of Elizabeth's life, making it relatable and engaging to a lot of readers who have faced similar hurdles in life like her. It is a true account of the author's life, told using pseudonyms.
The book tackles tough and sensitive but very realistic issues like child abandonment, racial prejudice, sexual abuse, domestic violence, and alcoholism, highlighting the resilience and strength of the human spirit. Secondly, the author's writing style is conversational and easy to follow. While reading, I felt like a character in the book who was experiencing Elizabeth's journey alongside her.
One other great thing to love about Elizabeth's story is that it showcases the power of faith, forgiveness, and redemption, offering hope and inspiration to readers who may be facing similar challenges. A part that I really liked was her visit to female inmates. Any reader would surely love the author's use of descriptive words, which provided vivid and clear pictures of events in the book, and dialogues that brought the individuals in the book into clear focus, making the story feel very authentic and engaging.
A con of reading Janet Lohmann's book is that its pacing was slow at times, with some events feeling overly detailed or repetitive. The book focuses on Elizabeth's spiritual journey and her relationship with God, which readers who don't share similar beliefs or religious values may not resonate with. The last point is not necessarily a con, but a matter of preference and personal value.
The book proved to be exceptionally well edited, as I did not find any grammatical or punctuation errors. With this and every other point raised above in mind, I rate it a 5 out of 5 stars. The con isn't enough reason to deduct a star.
Overall, She Was Born for a Purpose is a read that would make a great choice for readers who are interested in memoirs and personal stories of overcoming life's adversities and obstacles.
