The Ultimate Guide to Zombies by Dave Robertson is a comprehensive guide to the zombie world. This book covers the entire zombie timeline from the their real life beginning to the present day zombie culture. The author also takes care in noting any relevant books, movies, events or games related zombies.
When I picked up this book, I considered myself an avid zombie fan. I would have called it one of my favorite movie genres, but having finished this guide I realize I am more of an entry level zombie fan. Dave does a fantastic job at bring the history of the zombie to life, and I found myself surprised by many of his stories, and researched information.
By reading this book you can tell that the author is passionate about zombies. It does not read like a textbook even though it is essentially the history of zombies. Each chapter takes you deeper into the zombie world with well research information, supporting links, and media to help you learn all you can about the culture.
Personally, my favorite part of the book was discovering the origin of the zombie. Having watch many zombie themed movies, I had no idea they had such a historical non media related beginning. I also love that at the end of relevant sections he does a recap of the characteristics for the specific zombie discussed. It was fascinating to be able to compare the key differences in each zombie variation.
The layout of the book did leave much to be desired. Since it is a guide book it would have been helpful for it to have a few more guide like features. I would have liked it to contain an index, table of contents, or quick reference guide. For someone to use the information in this book they would have to take notes, or flag pages manually.
Also, I expected the book to contain a good amount of photos throughout the story. While Dave does to a great job at creating a visual world through his words, pictures would have brought this guide book to a new level. There are a few photos in the book but they aren't focal points or large enough to feel like they were an aid in the story.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and noted many pages so I can refer to them as I work my way through the zombie media. I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. While there were a few disappointing aspects of the book, the content was spot on; it is a must read for anyone that enjoys zombies and wants to take their appreciation to the next level.

I'm glad you had fun with this book. I am not sure I am happy that zombies are real, though.
