My Spouse, My Friend by Ingiete Oyama.

This book revolves around the theme of marriage, emphasizing the importance of couples staying married and dismissing thoughts of divorce, as it is against the will of God, who created the union. The author clearly articulates the necessity for couples to remain united, highlighting that God desires successful marriages to glorify Him in our homes and lives. The fulfillment of the roles crafted by God is rewarding, especially when approached with understanding, love, care, and reverence for God.

The book presents numerous examples of couples' struggles and common excuses for divorce, complemented by personal experiences from the author to illustrate key points and add practicality. I found these examples relatable. The author uses simple language, making the content easy to understand.
I appreciate that the book focuses on the origin of marriage and offers practical steps to prevent separation. This is not a collection of motivational quotes but a guide teaching that commitment and permanence should be the goals in marriage, with both husband and wife as equal partners in God's gift. As couples grow closer to God, they inevitably grow closer to each other.

Biblical principles often preach submission to the man as the head of the home. I appreciate that the author balances this explanation, clarifying that submission does not equate to enslaving or demeaning one's spouse. The author emphasizes that couples are equal partners, a formation ordained by God, and should view themselves as one. Discussions are backed by examples and scripture, showing that the advice shared is deeply rooted in the word of God and practical examples.

The book is well-structured, with chapters addressing various aspects of marriage such as forgiveness, finances, submission, commitment, and balance. It is professionally edited, and I noticed no errors while reading. However, some sections repeat words, phrases, and scriptures to elaborate on certain points, which makes the book feel unnecessarily lengthy. This is my only criticism.
Despite this, the book is enjoyable and insightful. I gained a lot from the wisdom shared by the author, and I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.
I highly recommend it to believers and those interested in making their marriage work according to the biblical standards set by God.

A Christian might be able to save their marriage if they apply the principles found in this book. For better or for worse is what I say. Only as long as no one is being abused. Respect and a two way street are important.
