I read this book by the title My Spouse, My Friend by Ingiete Oyama that delves into the institution of marriage, providing a comprehensive analysis of its meaning and significance. The author begins by articulating a precise definition of marriage and its underlying purpose. According to the text, marriage represents the coming together of two individuals who leave behind their parents' homes to start a unified journey as one. The author underscores that marriage is an exclusive bond between a husband and wife, echoing the narrative of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, thereby emphasizing the permanence of this relationship and discouraging the concept of divorce. Furthermore, the book emphasizes that marriage is a union meant for two individuals and not intended for multiple partners.

Moreover, the author elucidates the roles of each partner in the marriage, emphasizing the collaborative nature of these responsibilities. Additionally, the book addresses various challenges encountered by couples in their marital journey. It not only highlights these challenges but also provides valuable insights on overcoming them, making it a valuable resource for those seeking guidance in cultivating a successful and enduring marital partnership.

What I found particularly admirable about the book was the author's non-judgmental approach and the emphasis on mutualism within marriage, stressing the importance of equality and shared responsibilities. The book presents a realistic portrayal of the complexities of married life, encouraging readers to reflect on their own relationships and identify potential challenges they may encounter.

While the book featured some repetition in certain chapters, it did not significantly detract from the overall narrative flow. Despite this minor concern, I would unequivocally rate this book 5 out of 5 stars for its exceptional content. Furthermore, the editing was impeccably executed, as I did not come across any discernible grammatical errors throughout the text.

I will recommend this book to all readers, especially those in marriage and courtship, and to those who wish to have a family.
