Some challenges in life deliver blows that are so hard and painful they leave us reeling. However, what truly matters is how we respond to those blows. "First Survivor" by Mark Unger tells the story of his son, Louis Unger, who was diagnosed with cancer at a very young age. This discovery altered their lives drastically, and as they confronted the disease, everything changed forever.

Mary Ellen, Louis' mother, noticed one day that Louis' walking gait had changed. After visiting the doctor, they received the devastating news that Louis had neuroblastoma, a particularly aggressive form of cancer. Despite this crushing blow, the family resolved to support Louis and find a solution to his illness. His mother devoted herself to his care, while his father, Mark, researched tirelessly to find the best treatments available. Together, they embarked on a brave and arduous battle against the cancer threatening Louis' life.

I loved everything about this book. Written by Louis' father, the narrative is imbued with deep emotion and heartfelt sincerity. The book offers hope to others facing similar challenges, showcasing Louis' journey in a detailed and relatable manner. It serves as a comprehensive guide on how to care for a cancer patient, filled with valuable information about the disease and its treatment. The inclusion of pictures of Louis at different stages of his journey helps readers connect with the story on a personal level. Additionally, the definitions of medical terminologies at the end of the book are extremely helpful, ensuring that readers fully understand the content.

There is nothing I disliked about this book. The story is beautifully and thoughtfully crafted, with impeccable grammatical structure. It is well-written, motivational, and inspiring for both caregivers and those at various stages of illness.

I rate this book five out of five stars for its captivating, brilliant, and heartwarming story. The book is expertly edited, and I did not find any grammatical or spelling errors while reading it. I highly recommend this book to individuals caring for cancer patients and those interested in learning how to provide such care. Additionally, it is a valuable resource for individuals with cancer who are seeking hope and comfort on their journey. This book will provide the solace and inspiration you need.
