Review of Snatched Up to Heaven!
Snatched Up to Heaven! by Jemima Paul and Arvind Paul
When I saw the title, I immediately thought of Enoch, who, according to the scriptures, was taken up to heaven. This book recounts the experiences of heaven and God by two children named Priyanka (meaning "beautiful and lovable") and Deepika (meaning "light"). I particularly loved the meanings of their names and enjoyed reading about their experiences. Indeed, as it is said, "out of the mouth of infants and babies, God has ordained praise." The story they shared brings light to even the darkest of souls, and I found myself smiling as I read some of their descriptions of heaven.
Priyanka dreamt and narrated how she was with God in Heaven, who showed her around the place. Both she and her sister recounted their encounters with God, and their parents summed it up by sharing biblical principles to back up their interpretations. I appreciate the picture of heaven painted by the kids; it provides assurance that there is hope beyond this life. Initially, I thought their dreams might have been influenced by their parents' discussions or teachings at church, but when Priyanka explained that her stomach pain disappeared in heaven and that everyone had a crown, I knew this could only be from God.
Children generally have short attention spans and prefer to play, so Priyanka’s detailed explanation of activities with Jesus indicated they were truly fellowshipping with Him. Kids at this age typically wouldn't conceive of such activities or the reasons behind them. The children were happy and content with Jesus, reflecting the kind of heaven described in the scriptures. The parents’ use of scripture to support their points added credibility, allowing us to verify their beliefs against the Bible.
However, I found the part where Halloween was described as demonic rather skeptical. While I agree that it has some demonic undertones due to the portrayal of scary customs, I disagree that it serves as an initiation process. I have observed Halloween and seen no harm in people wearing scary costumes, sharing chocolates, and playing around their neighborhood. Many people enjoy horror movies, and while I don't find them entertaining, I see others laughing and enjoying themselves without any adverse effects. To me, Halloween is similar, unless there is actual evil done, which I am yet to witness.
I have no criticisms of this book. The author's attention to detail ensured each story flowed seamlessly into the next, keeping readers engaged. The thoughts were expressed clearly and concisely. The book is professionally edited, making it a smooth and enjoyable read. I rate this book 5 out of 5 and recommend it to anyone seeking a simple explanation of the concepts of heaven, hell, and our purpose on earth.
