Have Faith in God but Believe in the Devil by Glenn R. Thompson is a nonfiction guide for improving our spiritual lives and relationship with God. Thompson explains God’s words by using Bible verses and his life experiences on temptation, challenges, losing and regaining faith, etc. He also opines on topics such as the dangers of social media and pop culture, divorce, abortion, etc.

I liked the real-life examples he used to pass his message, such as comparing the journey to Heaven with obstacles that Navy SEALs face during their training. I agree with the author’s opinion on the dangers of social media and pop culture, especially on children, by glamorizing immoralities and the importance of protecting children from these. I liked that Thompson was brave enough to discuss controversial topics. While I didn’t fully agree with his opinion on abortion, I respected it. I also appreciated that he recognized men’s role in it. One important thing about this book is that Thompson doesn’t preach from a high horse. He writes about his flaws and challenges, like how he struggled with and overcame his addiction to painkillers. I also liked the pictures he included of himself and his horses.

However, the author came off as a bit judgmental. I believe things are not as black and white as Thompson depicts, especially regarding the issue of abortion. I also didn’t like that he referred to people who refused to share the word of God or support Christian causes as the Devil’s children. I thought that was an extreme generalization.

Nonetheless, this book is a gold mine for anyone seeking to strengthen their relationship with God. It was also excellently edited, as I found no errors. Considering my likes and dislikes, I rate Have Faith in God but Believe in the Devil by Glenn R. Thompson 4 out of 5 stars. I believe readers of conservative Christian beliefs will be the perfect fit for this book.
