Mark Unger's book, First Survivor: The Impossible Childhood Cancer Breakthrough, is a book that focuses on the survival of a young boy as he gets the required support from his parents. Mark recounted the story about his son, Louis, and the journey through his recovery from a dismal "zero chance of survival" diagnosis that he referred to as the victorious First Survivor.

The book tells us about the incredible seven-year journey of Louis as his mother, Mary Ellen, finds something unusual about the way he walks. They had to take him to the doctor for a checkup, and after the checkup, it turned out that he had stage 4 neuroblastoma. This gave the parents cause to worry about their son, and they had to look for ways in which Louis could heal from this. This included intense research on the part of the father, and the mother had to play her own part by ensuring she cared for Louis during the tough times. They were hopeful while seeking measures to deal with the situation. Pick up a copy of the book to read this interesting story.

There are many things I like in the book, but what I loved the most was the way the author told the story. He gave a well-detailed account of what happened. I also like how the family bonded, and this really helped in the way they communicated with one another. I also like the inclusion of a collection of photos that show Louis's development from a lively youngster to a cancer survivor. I appreciate the fact that the book also delves deep into family life and experiences, as well as genuine love, which enables families to grow. I like the strength and determination exhibited by Louis Unger's parents during their son's difficult cancer struggle because it shows they want the best for their child, as every parent should.

I didn't find anything in the book that I didn't enjoy because of its positive aspects and the lessons learned. For this reason, I will give the book a rating of five out of five stars. I noticed a few errors, which suggests that it was professionally edited. I will recommend this book to readers who enjoy both nonfiction and inspirational literature because it will best pique their interest.
