"When Business Is Love: The Spirit of Hästens―At Work, At Play, and Everywhere in Your Life" is a book about the author's personal journey and the ups and downs of his family business, Hästens. The author, Jan Ryde, shares the story of Hästens and the philosophy behind their success, emphasizing the importance of love, joy, and peace in creating a better work environment.

Hästens' mission was slowly and eloquently unfolded by Ryde throughout the narrative. Ryde advocated for spreading harmony through his family business by aiming not only to enhance individual lives but to uplift humanity as a whole. Hästens' principles reshaped conventional business paradigms by prioritizing heartfelt connections over mere financial transactions. I felt drawn to the company's devotion to craftsmanship and service, which I found reflected in every aspect of their corporate culture. Additionally, Jan Ryde's personal journey provided the backdrop to this philosophy. Despite early adversities and Hästens' humble beginnings, Ryde's family heritage transformed the company from a struggling local business to a global leader in luxury bedding. The resilience of this family business was admirable and inspiring.

The author also did a splendid job exploring personal mindsets and limiting beliefs. I found these sections about overcoming internal barriers incredibly resonant. Ryde addressed the negative self-talk that hindered growth by portraying them as imposed obstacles that could diminish one's potential. I appreciated his emphasis on recognizing and challenging these thoughts. Moreover, Ryde's practical approach to shifting mindsets encouraged me to replace my inner dialogue with a more empowering vocabulary.

"When Business Is Love: The Spirit of Hästens―At Work, At Play, and Everywhere in Your Life" was a delightful surprise, offering exactly the enriching narrative I didn't realize I needed. The book was concise yet comprehensive, forgoing repetitive points and dense corporate jargon. There was not a single aspect of the book that I found disagreeable. It truly merited my highest rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Despite containing occasional profanity, the book maintained an appropriate tone with no explicit content. Moreover, the narrative contained no errors, which spoke to the careful editing behind the scenes.

While this book occasionally referenced the Bible and acknowledged Ryde's personal belief in God, I found it to be inclusive rather than exclusive to any specific religious perspective. Ryde briefly touched on his own faith in earlier chapters, accepting that readers may have various beliefs in a higher power or spirituality. Importantly, religion played a minimal role in the narrative and did not overshadow its broader themes.

In conclusion, "When Business Is Love: The Spirit of Hästens―At Work, At Play, and Everywhere in Your Life" by Jan Ryde offers valuable insights beyond business principles to inspire growth and transformation. Whether you're an entrepreneur or someone eager to cultivate a more fulfilling life, this book is a great read.

Thank you for this review. I now know that this is an uplifting book. It is nice to see that Ryde incorporated his belief in the power of love and fostering real connections with people to enhance his business. Devotion to craftmanship is something that seems to be rare nowadays and needs to make a comeback. If you are thinking of running a family business this is a book you would benefit from reading.
