In the book "Quest: Finding Freddie" by Thomas Richard Spradlin, the narrative follows Frederick David Nachman, also known as Freddie, who served as the President of Nachman International Trading Corporation (NITC). Freddie mysteriously vanished while on a business trip to Lagos, Nigeria. His wife enlisted the help of the Washington-based law firm Clifford & Warnke to locate and bring Freddie back to New York. The responsibility of finding Freddie in Nigeria was assigned to Thomas Richard Spradlin.

The central narrative of the book revolves around the disappearance of Freddie in Lagos, Nigeria, on August 14, 1976. This event occurred amidst significant political upheaval, marked by a recent coup attempt and the assassination of General Murtala Muhammed. These volatile circumstances significantly complicated the search for Freddie, adding an unsettling layer of instability to an already challenging situation. Notably, Richard Spradlin, despite being an outsider, demonstrated remarkable resourcefulness by assembling a capable team within Nigeria to aid in the investigation.

The historical context provided in this book was enlightening, especially as I was previously unfamiliar with Nigeria's history. I was impressed by the author's extensive knowledge of the subject. Divided into thirteen chapters, cleverly marked with letters A through M, the book is set in Nigeria shortly after the country gained independence from colonial rule, around 1976. It was compelling to learn that this was a true story. The story itself, along with the author's narrative style, proved surprisingly captivating. The book also included helpful footnotes that directed readers to further information on specific topics mentioned briefly in the text.

I thoroughly appreciated the wealth of information presented by the author in this book. The background of the story was meticulously crafted, providing readers with a solid foundation to comprehend the complexities surrounding the quest to locate Freddie. By presenting events in chronological order, the author built suspense and kept me engaged, eager to discover the outcome. Throughout the book, I found myself learning valuable lessons. There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this book; it is truly outstanding.

Upon closer inspection, I noticed a few minor errors that could have been addressed with further editing. Nonetheless, the historical background provided in the book was particularly enlightening, offering valuable insights into Nigerian history. This, combined with the engaging narrative, compels me to wholeheartedly recommend this book and award it a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. History buffs and adventure seekers alike will find much to appreciate within its pages.
