[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "No Time to Waste" by Artell Smith.]
While managing companies and leading organizations, there are actions and words that subordinates pay attention to, which influence their attitude toward work and affect the overall progress of the organization. These actions and words are often considered insignificant. In "No Time to Waste: Microbehaviors: Leveraging the Little Things to Become a Better Leader," Artell Smith exposes readers to those positive microbehaviors that drive positive changes and those that are negative. The author's aim is to guide leaders, managers, and others to understand the impact of their words and actions in the workplace. Artell draws from life experiences, such as advice from mentors, that have been practiced to guide the readers.
This book exposed me to many things I didn't know and corrected some misconceptions I had. It showed how some actions I considered positive are usually negative microbehaviors that do not yield the intended results. The writings also serve as reminders of things we have heard or been taught but have forgotten, such as proper mannerisms.
The book is definitely a result of adequate research. This is why I was able to learn a lot. While reading, I noticed that the author subtly explained why certain acts work and, without going too deep, provided a clear understanding. The author's use of personal situations to explain concepts ensured better comprehension. Citing conversations with mentors and other individuals on business-related issues made things clear.
I did find a few errors as I read, but I did not find anything significant enough to cause dislike. The book was intelligently crafted. I rate the book 5 out of 5 due to the absence of any major issues.
I recommend the book to individuals who hope to develop themselves as business leaders. Those starting up firms or hoping to elevate their ranks in their workplaces will find the content in the book very helpful.
