Becoming the “Smartest Person In The Room” is something most of us desire. In my youth, I remember being coached to specifically aim at becoming the smartest without truly realizing what this entailed. There were moments I feared looking like a fool and it took me a while to realize that we are constantly in a process of learning and no one person truly knows every aspect of existence. Reading this book turned out to be rewarding in that it revealed how this desire can play a significant role in hindering growth, impacting our “Total intelligence (body, heart, and head) “in the field of cyber security and beyond.
I once worked in a technical environment for a lengthy time and never truly understood the communication barrier between technical staff and other organizational support staff. What I did observe firsthand from my experience, though, was the malfunctioning of a critical organization as a result of such miscommunication,” posturing”, “bullying,” and poor people skills. Navigating these pages enabled me to view such matters from the insightful perspective of Christian Espinosa, which confirmed some suspicions I held while providing enlightenment on the psyche of the technical mind. I appreciated each page that disclosed the common technical personality types that often hindered the ability to win the cybersecurity war and any other war worth fighting for. I found this information valuable in terms of my empathy and ability to better connect with the technical-minded going forward.
Concerning cybersecurity as a profession itself, I gained valued insight regarding the degree of life-threatening risks that were present and a deeper understanding and appreciation of cybersecurity as an industry. My view on cybersecurity and the integral role it weaves into the functioning of my existence has gained a newfound respect.
The enhancement of communication skills points to unveiling a pathway toward efficiency, growth, and harmony. Espinosa provides depth on this subject matter, with key highlights derived from his life journey and professional experience as a cybersecurity engineer and CEO. Throughout the well-structured chapters, he formulates a powerful message to the reader on the importance of effective communication in an organization, cybersecurity, and in one’s life holistically. It becomes evident that sharpening one's communication skills through Espinosa’s seven-step methodology (The Secure Methodology) holds the power to transform an individual/organization's weaknesses into strengths, thus becoming an effective weapon to conquer the ominous cyberattack threats, winning the cybersecurity war and the general daunting battles of life in other spheres.
I enjoyed that this book included diagrams and interactive exercises to reinforce the beautiful impact of applying the Secure Methodology; it enhanced a memorable reading experience and promoted visualization of the process.
Considering my overall thoughts, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. There is nothing in this book requiring improvements. The editing was flawless and contributed to my rewarding reading experience. This is a book I look forward to re-reading time and again.
