Review of The Glorious Beast!
5 out of 5 stars
Although this is not an experience most of us will ever have, I had the eerie feeling that the story I was reading could become our story. Would we have what it takes to set things right? Chally's arresting writing and incisive, sometimes devastating, use of imagery got my vote—a first-class act that commanded my cheer, my thanks, and (not to be left out) my admiration. Through energizing and detailed narration, he shows how problems can become opportunities when a group of people come together to correct them. The outcome of this effort, we are told, is mainly business success. But more fundamentally, it is a story about the growth of a group of human beings, each of whom manages to be more resilient, adaptable, and authentically themselves by the end of it.
"The Glorious Beast!" really brings something to the table in terms of bringing together and intermingling different genres. Be it comedy, be it action and adventure; you can recognize the elements of those classic genres, but those elements are so seamlessly intertwined that it creates a rich, authentic, and, most important, an unbelievably satisfying blend that is greater than its component parts.
I love the writing of Chally; it is very interesting and intelligent. It is a very good story that teaches the reader the usefulness of sticking to a task and what can be drawn from it. Although Chally expresses himself very well and the story is easily understandable, it could have been complemented with some kind of (visual) to enhance understanding. For example, understanding the situation could be easier if a uniform were displayed in the book for the reader to also see. This would make understanding the living reality that much more powerful. The writer treats delicate subjects, such as sexual activities, with artfulness and thoughtfulness. Though not every reader might like this, the author does it in a way that doesn't undermine the story's honesty or power.
The editing of the book is better than average, and it ensures a reading experience that is not marred by any errors at all. In fact, wonderful mistakes are the only things that would really improve the book's already incredible quality, Furthermore, there is nothing for me to despise in this book.
Overall, this narrative is potent and smooth, and it lingers in the reader's consciousness after the book is finished. This reviewer gives the work of Scott L. Chally a well-deserved rating of five stars. "The Glorious Beast!" is a great choice for an insightful adventure.
