Review of Be the Weight Behind the Spear
If it takes a village to raise a child, then it takes a country to make a hero. Be the Weight Behind the Spear, written by Dr. Josh McConkey, is a memoir written to encourage every American to contribute to the strengthening of the nation, to support the nation in any capacity they can and at every level they find themselves at—to be the weight behind the spear. The youth are the future of the country, and they need all the support they can get.
Regardless of the amount of power the spear wields, it is a useless piece of stick without the weight behind it. In the same vein, regardless of the potential for success that America as a nation possesses, if the citizens don’t act as the weight behind it by getting actively involved, it will remain a fantasy. There are ways to act as the weight behind America’s spear, and there are ways to not act as the weight behind America’s spear, and all these are clearly outlined in the book. You get to find out when you read. It is important to know that for America to conquer her adversaries, she needs to act as a united front.
As stated by the author, this book is not just a leadership ethos; it is a call to action. I loved how clear the author was about how to be the weight behind the spear and how to not be the weight; he further furnished it with his own experience and other people’s stories, and I found that very captivating. I loved the emphasis on exemplary leadership, and I loved the fact that the author made it crystal clear that regardless of your position in society, you have a role to play in making your nation a better place.
There wasn’t anything to dislike about this book, though at some point, it felt like the author was diverting from the original narrative by giving too many details of his personal experience as a physician, but it enriched the story and provided a deeper understanding of the sacrifices he had to make for his country.
I rate this memoir five out of five stars because of the inspiring and profound insights it offers into the author’s life and experiences. I found only a little grammatical error, but this didn’t detract from the overall quality of this memoir. I’d recommend this book to everyone who wants to make a difference in their country.

Dr. Josh further shares his experiences in the US Air Force as the Commander, as an Emergency Physician, in business, and in battlefields in Iran which shows how experience can shape one's insight into been a good leader.
Through the book, we can see the author has the love of his dear country, America at heart.
The book hammers on the importance and need to train and guide the younger generations to be successful future leaders.
