“Taming Cancer,” authored by Drew N. Kelner, Ph.D., is a book where the author recounts his experience, which has made it significantly possible to further enlighten readers about cancer, and this is much better and more specific than any hearsay. His ability to explain some of the situations with cancer by likening its mutation, growth, and treatment to physical events or things helps readers with good imagination and understanding of the menace of cancer.

"Taming Cancer" is not just a book to be read for fun, but a book that digs deep into the world of cancer. It takes one through its background, which includes understanding the life-threatening disease through several types of research made by reputable individuals that have made discoveries that have affected the tune of cancer research. It also takes one through the root of immunisation/vaccination, the human immune system, and the several studies and breakthroughs that have been made as regards cancer. I also find the images included in the book helpful for an elaborate understanding.

The book makes one understand that cancer is not just a disease that affects a specific group of people or a set of people with a particular lifestyle; it goes ahead to inform one that it happens to anybody at any stage of life, even though some types of cancer can be age- or gender-specific.

It also goes ahead to shed more light on the various types of treatments, which include radiation, chemotherapy, and TIL (tumour infiltrating lymphatic) therapy. I love that this book not only talks about cancer; it sheds light on some other viruses, gives advice on how to keep fit, and suggests some possible preventive measures to be taken.

I enjoyed reading this book because of the topic it treats, but I have a few reservations that I believe would have made reading it much better. I find some of the sentences too elongated, and this made me get lost in-between reading. I believe that simple sentences will still communicate and help with easy comprehension. In addition, on Page 74, one of the images overlapped on the text, and this made it impossible to read the full text on the page. I also had issues with the page numbering. On several occasions, I opened several pages with the same page number but different contents. For these reasons, I rate it 3 out of 5 stars. I noticed some errors; however, this didn’t reduce my reading experience.

The book is recommended to readers who love science, medicine, and research and are inquisitive about cancer. Even though the author mentioned something like making cancer comprehensible for the layman, I still think that it is most suitable for adults who have a wide knowledge of science because of the terminologies that appeared in the book.
