This book shares the incredible true story of Louis, the author's three-year-old son, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a devastating childhood cancer that had already spread to his brain. Despite the dire prognosis, Louis' loved ones, medical team, and friends joined forces to fight for his life. What ensued was a long and difficult seven-year journey, marked by numerous challenging treatments that tested Louis' courage and resilience. Yet, each treatment brought him closer to a miraculous recovery, ultimately leading him to overcome the cancer and achieve remission.

Mary Ellen's motherly instincts kicked in when she noticed a slight change in her son Louis's walk. Her concerns led to a series of doctor's appointments and tests, which delivered devastating news: Louis had stage 4 neuroblastoma. The diagnosis turned their lives upside down. Mary Ellen dedicated herself to caring for Louis, while his father, Mark Unger, became driven to find the best possible treatments. Louis's childhood was transformed into a courageous fight for survival, marked by grueling procedures and harsh treatment side effects. Mark Unger shares their heart-wrenching yet inspiring seven-year journey in his book, First Survivor

I absolutely loved this book! The glossary was a total lifesaver; whenever I came across a word I didn't know, I could just look it up and keep on reading without getting stuck. The author's writing style was amazing, making it easy to follow and really connect with the characters on a deep level. They did an incredible job of conveying the emotions and vulnerabilities of the characters, making the story feel so real and relatable. Honestly, I couldn't find anything to criticize—it's just a fantastic book all around!

This book is an absolute must-read—it's a game-changer! I'm giving it a well-deserved 5 out of 5-star rating. The author shares a heartbreaking yet inspiring story about childhood cancer without sugarcoating the harsh realities. Louis's journey is brutal, and the author spares no detail, showing the profound impact on him and his family. The raw emotions and challenges they faced are laid bare, making the story feel deeply personal and relatable. The writing is seamless, thanks to flawless editing. Louis's story shines as a beacon of hope for families facing childhood cancer and a powerful reminder that we can overcome even the toughest challenges. It's a true inspiration that will leave you feeling uplifted and encouraged.
