Review of The Dog Training Manifesto
When we choose to adopt a dog, we are choosing a new family member. It is our responsibility to care for them in the best way that we can. However, many of us are unaware of the complexities involved in dog care and its training methods. What if there was a way to get all the key information about dogs in a single book? The Dog Training Manifesto by Bartholomew Henri is a self-help book that offers the same.
This book covers step-by-step details on how to train the dogs from beginner to advanced level. This book emphasizes training them by using positive reinforcement, even when their behavior is unwanted in the house. It is divided into ten chapters that explore understanding dogs' minds, creating trust, training, and other dog-related problem-solving techniques.
There are numerous aspects to consider before and after adopting a dog. This book outlines everything in detail. The first thing to consider is which dog breed suits our existing lifestyle, as each dog has its own requirements that we need to take care of. For example, if we live a lazy lifestyle, then we should not get an active dog that requires lots of physical stimulation. That dog is going to create chaos in the house due to excess energy, and if their physical demands are not satisfied, it will harm their mental health. If we talk about health, the author mentions that, like humans, dogs need both physical and mental stimulation daily to stay healthy. The amount of stimulation they require depends on their breed. The author also mentions keeping both the physical and mental health of dogs in check, and if we notice any of the warning signs that the book describes, we should immediately take them to a qualified vet.
There are several things I liked about this book. The first is the simple language and its concise length. This book is engaging from beginning to end, and if you love dogs, reading this book will be a breeze. I learned a lot of new stuff after reading this book, and many of my myths were debunked. This book covers the science behind canines and offers practical suggestions infused with real-life stories and examples. Recently, I was thinking about adopting a dog, but I didn’t know how to train them, and all the tasks looked overwhelming. I knew that hiring a trainer would not allow me to bond with and build a connection with my dog. However, after reading this book, I am more confident that I am capable of training my pet on my own. The book’s editing is superb and flawless.
There is nothing to dislike about this book. It's a straightforward guide with personal experiences from the author that has very little scope for further improvement.
I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because of the reasons above. It's a perfect all-round book that will cover almost everything you will need in training and caring for your dog. This book is ideal for people who love dogs, are planning to adopt them, or are looking to refine their understanding of canines.
