I have always avoided emotional and sad books, but for some reason, I felt a strong urge to read "First Survivor." The title caught my attention, and the image of the little boy on the cover intrigued me.

"First Survivor" is an emotionally charged book written by Mark Unger, the father of Louis, the little boy featured on the cover. At just five years old, Louis was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, a cancer typically found in the adrenal gland and commonly affecting children under five. The book chronicles the journey of Mark, Louis, and Mary through trials, pain, struggles, hope, and happiness.

As I read this book, I was overwhelmed with emotions, remembering my childhood friend who died of leukemia. Louis' story deeply resonated with me, allowing me to understand and feel his parents' pain—the fear of losing a loved one and the sorrow of watching someone you care about suffer. I highly commend Mark for his relentless efforts and struggles to secure the best medical care for his son.

Hope plays a crucial role in this family's life and in Louis's condition. I admire how Louis's parents did not let the fear of losing him to cancer deter them from exploring every possible avenue to save their son. It was this hope that continually gave them the strength to persevere and never give up.

I have no negative feelings about this book, nor did I find any content offensive. The book is well-written and free of errors. I truly appreciate the author's writing style and choice of words. The glossary at the end of the book was particularly helpful in understanding the medical terms used throughout. For these reasons, I rate it a 5 out of 5 stars.

I highly recommend "First Survivor" to families with loved ones suffering from a severe illness. This book will ignite their hope and fill them with the passion and determination to fight and never give up.
