Review of Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book
Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book is a comprehensive manual on golf written by Kalliope Barlis. Barlis begins with her inspiring story of how she learnt and mastered golf within two years, with the help of her coach, Chucks. While this book is authored by an expert, Barlis emphasises the importance of practice throughout. The main focus of the book is the use of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), which involves harnessing the power of the mind while playing golf. According to Barlis, the mind can visualise actions and events, which is essential for mastering the game.
I appreciated how the author explicitly explained the importance of sights, feelings, and sounds in the game of golf. Although this book might benefit beginners, I believe it is more suited for those who have some training and are looking to improve their skills. Some of the terms used were unfamiliar to me, making it slightly challenging to relate to certain sections. One of my favourite sentences in the book is, "Every bad shot is still a shot," as it underscores the idea that players can mentally replay their mistakes, correct them, and improve in the future. The book also reveals a "cheat code" that golf equipment manufacturers use to deceive beginners, but I won't spoil it for you—you'll have to read the book to find out.
The book is divided into three sections, with the second focussing on practical tips to improve your game, to which she added some questions one should ask themselves. Also, here she talked about reflecting on every shot one makes, either good or bad, to get better. I encourage you to explore these insights for yourself when you read the book. There’s nothing I disliked about it, and I found no errors. I recommend getting the hard copy for ease of use and accessibility. This book is highly recommended for anyone interested in learning how golf works, whether professionally or for leisure. I rate this 5 out of 5 stars.
