Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book by Kalliope Barlis is a short handbook that summarizes what has to be done mentally and physically to be a pro-golfer. This book is designed precisely for carrying in a golf bag and skimming regularly for instant improvement.

I had the privilege of reading its predecessor, Play Golf Better Faster: The Classic Guide to Optimizing Your Performance and Building Your Best Fast. This book is its pocket-sized extraction that coheres in all its efforts to enhance the gameplay. This mini-version has the same three sections: Using Your Brain, Practicing Golf, and Playing Golf. But it provides some add-on exercises and skill training in addition to the important ones listed previously.

This book ascends in its success by providing a plethora of ideas and tips that could be adapted and implemented to see improved results. The author explores the belief that ‘the mind is the most important golf equipment’ with NLP-based techniques that alter our feelings and thoughts about the game, which in turn alter the way we play.

The chapters in Part Two urge us to reflect on every shot while practicing, as each one has something to learn from. The players could greatly benefit by going through the chapter ‘Skills to Work on’ which offers dozens of skills to go through that aid in landing the target. The author insists on practicing them all separately until excellence is achieved before imbuing them into the routine. Simple exercises that could be practiced at home are designed to work magic on the stance while playing.

Part Three guides the players into achieving the utmost precision by detailing both physical and mental strategies. All the factors, down to wind, grass texture, geographical limitations, and many more, that could hinder attaining precision on the course are briefed in the form of short remainders. The exercises provided here are to increase adaptability and help perfect motor skills, which together determine the players’ control of the ball. Any page opened at random could serve as a mental warm-up before commencing the practice on the course. So the author suggests carrying this little golf bag book everywhere for big results.

This book is flawlessly edited, and I do not have suggestions for improvement. Other than for one light-hearted profanity, this book is suitable for people of all ages. I would give this pint-sized marvel, recommended to golfers of all levels, 5 out of 5 stars for conveying succinct information and profound messages in crisp, simple words.
