Me Power by LaNysha T. Adams is a collection of principles about drawing inspiration and strength from within ourselves to overcome challenges in life and achieve our goals. Me Power requires a deep knowledge of oneself, often buried beneath layers of socially imposed personalities. Many people do things they don’t like, such as working jobs they hate, being in unfulfilling relationships, or accepting whatever stereotypes society imposes on them. With Me Power, one realizes that society or other unwanted external influences and opinions shouldn’t have a say in what we choose to do with our lives. The five main steps towards Me Power are identifying our current obstacles, tapping into our strengths to face our obstacles, speaking and acting out our deepest desires, choosing our mentors, and constantly reflecting on our journey.

I was satisfied with the introduction of this book. In it, I found a story and an experience that struck a chord in me. This story is about the author’s experience dealing with rejection from a PhD program based on her would-be mentor’s stereotyping her. The author narrates how this experience helped her tap into her Me Power to become a PhD holder today. This story is one of many captivating, emotional, and inspirational stories in this book that will energize you to never give up on your dreams. I loved the author’s use of a conversational tone, analogies, and anecdotes from her past to make the content simple and understandable. I also loved how the author argued that ME Power is not about narcissism or viewing life as a zero-sum game. One of the five principles of Me Power emphasizes the need to rely on chosen mentors to guide us in our journey. Furthermore, the author clearly explained the difference between Me Power and empowerment using etymological references and concrete examples.

I rate this book five out of five stars. It deserves this rating because its editing was good, and the author explained many concepts very well while keeping the tone conversational and including many practical exercises and references on personality and skills assessments. Overall, this book made me feel good about myself and inspired me to believe in myself more. There is no sexual content in this book, and the only thing that comes close to violence is a narration of an accident scene. I identified only two instances of profanity in this book, including non-borderline profanity. I have nothing negative to say about this book. I highly recommend it to readers of all religions.
