[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Code Grape Culture" by Tonya Lincoln.]
Within society, women are obliged to have many different functions, encompassing those of a mother, wife, sister, and daughter. It is in this regard that they end up having little or no time for themselves because they are trying to juggle the needs and expectations of others around them, making it too complex to involve. The resources offer women practical steps on how to go about their demanding roles without compromising their personal development.
“Code Grape Culture” is a collaborative effort by Tonya Lincoln, Aimee Rhodes, and other authors who delve into establishing a crisis intervention support system that is based on living intentionally and cultivating relationships with other women. This book tells the stories of Kendra, Maya, Fatima, and Charlene, all women who embraced the four guiding principles (the 4Rs), namely rest, rejuvenation, revive, and relaunch, so as to navigate through life’s problems until they were restored and had renewed purpose. Using dialogues with experts on self-awareness exercises such as writing prompts for journaling and prayers including devotions that lead to joyfulness and laughter with Christ-centered life while empowering them to re-enter their spheres of influence with newfound energy and insight.
Another crucial thing that one can learn from this book is humility in accepting when one has reached their breaking point. This realization makes us remember that God never intended for us to carry everyone’s burdens. Instead, we note how important it is for us to depend fully on Him as we wade through all the challenges encountered in our lives. Thus this teaching leads to balanced living, whereby our physical health, mental well-being, and spiritual welfare should be given equal priority as we create some boundaries while assisting those around us.
The things about this book that interest me most are interviews and experiences from great women who went through many things and also stories of female mentors, among others. These stories show how individuals can prevail over adversity in order to achieve some form of balance in their lives. The book has case studies to prove that balance is possible even in the face of grave challenges. These are both inspiring and practical guides for other women who would like to successfully navigate such trying circumstances in their own lives.
There is nothing about this book that I do not like. The editing done on this book is perfect. This book deserves five out of five stars from me because of the author's unique style of writing. Women who desire composure and resilience during times of difficulty are encouraged to read this book.
