He was taken out of her care when he was quite young after a police raid on his home and spent the remainder of his childhood bouncing between different orphanages and group homes. The devastating reality of growing up in this system is portrayed in this emotional read.

I enjoyed the poetic tone used in this book. From the first line, the author's story drew me in, and the vivid descriptions brought it to life. From the devastation of losing his father to cancer to the prison-like atmosphere of Orangewood, each event was described in deep detail, making it easy to picture. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It is a powerful narrative, and there was nothing that I disliked about it. It was well-edited, and I see no reason to give it anything except a perfect score. This book would be ideal for those who enjoy reading emotional memoirs and have an interest in learning more about group homes in the United States. It sheds light on the deplorable conditions children are subjected to in group homes, making it an important memoir; I highly recommend it.
