Review of My Spouse, My Friend by Ingiete Oyama

My Spouse, My Friend is a book for married couples and those who are going to get married. It describes the joy of married life and ways to build a happy marriage, answering to the will of the Creator. Here, non-fiction work aims to show the brides how beautiful marriage can be and stresses the crucial point that only friends and loving young people make a marriage. Therefore, the book’s ultimate aim is to ensure that through both scriptural understanding and instructions on creating space for intimacy in marriage, couples can make their marriages pleasing to God.

One of the ideas herein is that marriage should be happy; it has to be the wish of two people to join; it must be the joining of two friends who shall work. From Oyama’s perspective, there is a unique unity in marriage between husband and wife, which points to the biblical understanding that marriage is a covenant bond more privative to the law and expressly covenanted before God. She, therefore, employs biblical referential phrases and examples of what it means to be ‘one flesh’ when in marriage and what it takes to cultivate such a relationship.

As a part of this series, it continues its popularity and has developed to embrace readers with familiar language. Oyama also tackles important issues, such as uniting against external pressures and responding to internal transformations. These considerate views stem from her passion for advising couples to accept their responsibilities, for, in marriage, both partners need to work. The wise words of the Creator—“It is not good that the man should be alone: “And I will make him a help meet for him”—would help readers reflect on how the aspect of partnership is crucial to their married lives.

What has not been done before in similar books such as ‘My Spouse, My Friend’ is humour as a factor toward marriage success. According to Oyama, people ought to find purpose in life and develop friendships that can stand the test. This infusion of laughter makes the book appealing, and more importantly, the author is very open to sharing the issues that any couple may face. As such, it is a worthwhile read for any couple, regardless of the phase of marriage.

Understandably, specific arguments will be more or less convincing, as the case may be, amongst the many excellent aspects of the tasks in the paper. Though some may embrace the biblical dimension, others would like advice that does not have a strong dose of religiosity. But even so, Oyama uses her words to develop these insights positively, calling readers to action regarding and relating to her ideas.

If one message flows throughout My Spouse, My Friend, it is that friendship in marriage is a strength and a potential. Based on the sacred texts and presented in plain language, this book will be helpful for any pair who wants to improve the quality of their partnership. From newly wedded persons to those who have enjoyed marriage for years, the book provides proverbs and wisdom that will help revive friendship and love in the marriage. I recommend this book thoroughly to anybody in marriage to strengthen the relationship with their partner and accept the divine intention of marriage.

I would rate ‘My Spouse, My Friend’ by Ingiete Oyama five stars. Couples should read this work as a resource to help them improve their companionate relationships. By integrating teachings from the bible with everyday wisdom, one can get a good and complete set of instructions to follow to attain marital happiness. Finally, friendship, shared support, and the possibility of overcoming life difficulties – all of these themes are a handsome prospect for a successful marriage. The book also has very few, if any, grammar, spelling, and other mechanical errors, which only enlighten the reader by giving powerful messages that are preached on their rightful platform.
