Hästens, which has been in business for 170 years, is committed to creating the best beds to help people sleep better. Starting as a saddlery in Sweden, the company became a manufacturer of high-end bedding products due to the focus on the quality of the products and craftsmanship. Hästens’ success stems from the love for people, products, and their mission and places Hästens as the name for luxury as Apple in the computer industry. Hästens has been able to overcome internal and external threats by maintaining its core values, embracing innovation, and emphasizing real service delivery as opposed to rivalry. The author narrates his story of a difficult childhood in 1960s Sweden—a great love story that brought him back to Hästens. They focus on value creation by satisfying consumers and cultivating the love and joy of corporate culture. What was the driving force behind this incredible process, and what made Hästens the legend it is today?

I appreciated how Jan Ryde showed that there was a new way of doing business, not just to compete but to create. He calls for offering consumers value through unique and superior goods to create sustainable profits. It is, therefore, essential to embrace this shift from a profit-oriented mentality to a love-centered approach when creating a meaningful business. The writing style is lively and contemplative, making abstract concepts comprehensive and timely, thus questioning the status quo. Through the analysis of Hästens’ philosophy, the readers get to understand how to develop experiences that are based on craftsmanship and tradition. This book was full of personal stories and self-analysis, which I like because it gives a glimpse into the author’s life and how early events influenced him.

When Business Is Love is more than just an inspirational book; it is also a reference book for those who want to create a brand with a meaningful impact. This book was flawless in both editing and context, so there was nothing negative about it. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.
