Madame Ph.D. is a memoir that starts with the journey of the author, Gwynette Ford Lacy, a young black girl from the inner city of Washington, DC, who, against all odds, got a Ph.D. Despite the societal challenges of race, gender, bullying, and poverty, she never relinquished her dream and went on to make a great educational record. Her story is one of triumph over adversity. What measures did she take to overcome these barriers to attain the highest level of academic success? What record did she make? I found this memoir to be very motivating. Her story of growing up in difficult conditions to achieve such a great feat is a perfect example of hard work and dedication. The writing style is engaging, making it easy to read and making me feel like the author is telling me her story in person. I was particularly touched by her account of rising from a broken home and the challenges that a black woman in the 1960s and ‘70s faced and how she was able to overcome all these. She is truly an inspiration to the future generation. This is not just a story of academic achievement; it is a story of hope. 

Another thing I loved was that the inclusion of pictures in this book helped me to create a clearer image of how times were then. It will help younger readers understand the vibe the author was talking about. The author also describes these images sufficiently so that readers are not lost. There was nothing to dislike about this book, so I give it a full rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It was free of errors and exceptionally edited and formatted. I highly recommend it to young people who need motivation to be better and achieve their goals; this book will help them.
