Review of Snatched Up to Heaven!
Jemima Paul, PH.D., the author of the book Snatched Up to Heaven!: Astounding Testimonies of Heaven and Hell from the Mouths of Babes, and her husband, Arvind Paul, were originally from South India but now reside in the United States with their three daughters, Priyanka, Keerthana, and Deepika. Jemima Paul is a lover of the things of God and holds a doctorate in Christian education, so imagine her excitement when two of her daughters, Priyanka and Deepika, told her they’ve had a vision of heaven. But she notes in the book that she didn’t write the book to become famous or to attract unnecessary attention. Jemima had some doubts about whether to publish the book or not as it could potentially bring them unwanted attention; even her daughter Priyanka didn’t want her mother to write about their visions, as she didn’t want to become famous, but after much prayer, the author was convinced God would want her to write about it because it was all for Christ and not for them.
The sisters described encounters with God, Jesus, and various biblical figures. They vividly spoke of heaven's beauty, including the stunning gate, God's throne encircled by a rainbow, the lush grass, and the meals they witnessed being enjoyed there. Priyanka and Deepika talked about times when Jesus carried them and other times when both Jesus and God carried them, with angels helping. They described heaven with many details, like clothes, golden paths, golden houses, many kinds of animals, and people of different colors in heaven. They saw Jesus cooking and serving food to people, along with flowers and gardens. They also described a trip to a smelly hell, where the devil, witches, and demons hurt bad people with fire, boiling water, snakes, and worms.
I liked this book so much because the authors did not try to add to or subtract from the children’s visions to make them more appealing or even ridicule their visions. Instead, they wrote them as the children recounted and then gave their interpretations while backing them up with bible verses. Including links to videos of the children’s accounts of the visions was a thoughtful addition. I also liked that they added pictures of the children’s drawings and family pictures at the end of the book. This gives more details about their lives and even made me feel connected to their visions more through the drawings.
This book teaches the importance of having faith in God and Jesus, and it also talks about how people will receive divine rewards or face punishment based on their actions here on Earth. I recommend this book to Christian families, both adults and children; everyone in a Christian household can learn a key to a thing or two from this book. I’m rating this book 5 out of 5 stars because I disliked nothing about it, and it was well-written and professionally edited.
