[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Healing from Growing Up with a Narcissistic Parent" by Kelly Todd.]
Did you grow up in a family that made you feel unloved? This could be one of the most painful experiences ever not loved, especially by your parents. There are many impacts this could have on the child. I gained extensive knowledge of what narcissism is by reading the book, Healing from Growing Up with a Narcissistic Parent by Kelly Todd. It was very detailed in explaining narcissism and how one can heal from it.
The author of this book started by helping us understand what narcissism is through the story shared by the author of a narcissistic woman who is also a wife with a kid. The man adored her so much, and they seemed perfect as a couple, but that wasn’t the case. He decided to open up to the author, and shortly after that, he took his own life. This is really sad; narcissism is a very sensitive topic, and having knowledge of it is very essential. The author of this book touched on different areas of narcissism and, most importantly, how to heal from it.
This book is so fascinating in the sense that it does a great job explaining what a narcissistic parent is and how their behavior affects you. Understanding it is essential to understanding other aspects of the book. This shows that the flow of the book is top-notch. This book is not just centered on the toils of narcissism, and I feel like the most important thing is to heal from it. And the author did justice in explaining it using a very calm tone. I also loved how the author was able to share stories at different points in the book; it made the reading easier. In total, I love the book organization; it sticks to the title. I also didn’t come across any errors; it shows the book was properly edited.
I had a hard time reading this book due to the very tiny font size. I had to zoom in and zoom out timelessly in order to see clearly. It was very challenging for me. I would rate this book five out of five stars for its outstanding qualities. I also would recommend this book to lovers of nonfiction and those who have been victims of narcissism.
