Legacy: Wisdom of African Traditions and the Bible is a book on African proverbs by Chris Morehouse. A few years ago, I read a book named 'Bangla Probad' (meaning 'Proverbs of Bengal) by Shri Sushil Kumar Dey and enjoyed it thoroughly. So, I did not think twice when I got a chance to grab this book.

In this book, the author mentions almost three hundred proverbs from all over the African continent and compares them with the Biblical verses. He explores the similarities and insightful thoughts across different traditions. This book highlights the diverse and intensely rich legacy of wisdom traditions in Africa. The parallels drawn between African proverbs and Biblical teachings exhibit the fundamental truths of life. These proverbs show the interconnectedness of humanity and encourage deeper introspection.

The author organises these proverbs into forty-six themes which is easy to follow. After each chapter, Morehouse provides insightful commentary and a study guide to prompt his readers to reflect on these proverbs. He openly talks about his viewpoint and mentions other writers to allow sincere discussion for the readers. He also asks questions for discussion and study, instigating readers to think profoundly about these proverbs. Furthermore, the author incorporates multiple symbols from all over the continent to acquaint his readers with traditional African symbols.

I like how this book is not confined to Africa only rather it incorporates the voice of all humanity irrespective of their region, religion, culture, tradition and language. Morehouse juxtaposes verses from the Bible but succeeds in keeping his book universally acceptable for all. The wisdom of these proverbs is echoed in various moral stories, fables and mythological stories. Again, the author's profound knowledge and thesis make this book an amazing, resourceful and valuable gift to the readers.

I have nothing to say against this book. This book is praiseworthy with its professional and flawless editing. I would love to give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars because of its authentic voice for love, compassion, sincerity, gratitude, patience and humbleness. I would like to recommend this book to all lovers of life lessons.
